Obituary of Herbert H. Insley
Colonie - Herbert H. Insley, 90, of Grounds Pl. died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Washington, DC, Herbert grew up in Chevy Chase, MD and was a graduate of State College High School and City College in New York City. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. Herbert began his teaching career in 1954 at Colonie Central High School and retired in 1983. He was active in the teacher’s association and also served as President and on the negotiating team.
He was a Ham Radio enthusiast and enjoyed photography. At the age of 58 he took up cycling and rode across the country five times. He was a member of CASTA cross country ski club and the Mohawk Hudson Cycling Club. He also enjoyed a lifelong hobby of model trains and was active in the Mohawk and Hudson Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and the Hudson-Berkshire Division of the National Model Railroad Association.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean F. Insley; his children, Barbara Crouch (Denny) of Sandy, UT, David Insley (Cheryle) of Townsend, MA, Peter Insley (Fran) of Hillsdale, NJ and Marcia Insley of Arlington, VA; his grandchildren, Caitlynn, Daniel, Christopher, Patrick, Michael, Haley and Jake; and his great-grandchildren, Zoie and Sloane. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Insley and his son-in-law, Keith Vuignier.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 58 3rd St, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie on Friday from 4 - 7 p.m. For those who wish, memorial donations to the Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road.
