Obituary of Charlotte Anne Hawkins
Colonie - Charlotte Anne Hawkins, 71, of Victory Dr. entered God’s arms on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born and raised in Albany, she was a lifelong area resident and she is loved by so many who now refer to her as “Mamma Bear”, a nicknamed by her daughter. Charlotte retired from the New York State Dept. of Higher Education and always prided herself in the work she did while at the State. Her faith was extremely important to her and she was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at Christ Our Light Church in Loudonville where she and her husband and children attended as a family for many years.
Charlotte is survived by her husband William A. Hawkins, who she met at the age of 9 and began dating at the age of 14. They married in 1965. Charlotte and William will forever be connected as they have shared a lifetime of love and challenges and an unbreakable bond that stood the test of time. Charlotte is survived by her children, Joseph Anthony Hawkins (Heather) of Colonie and Judith Anne Hawkins (Timothy O’Leary) of Albany. Joseph (who she referred to as her “little lamb” and Judith “her little sugar bee” adore their Mom who is forever embedded in their heart and they will carry on her legacy of love as they face the challenge of walking this journey without her here in the physical. Charlotte is also survived by the grandchildren who breathed life into her when born and they include, Addyson Lindsay (Ethan Lyons), Anthony Joseph and Mick Alan Hawkins and Starr Myers; her lifelong long best friend/sister, Madonna Maniscalco of Colonie has always been a source of love and strength for her. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles Coogan, Ellen “Ma” L. Harlin and Nicholas “Pop” Harlin and brother, David L. Metchick who she shared a special connection with. Her fur babies whom she doted over where her dogs, Benji, Lydia and Molly. There are not enough words or space to express the magnitude of the impact that this little lady has had on so many lives and to explain what a true survivor she is. Charlotte is a woman of strength, courage, and has a feistiness that is unlike no other. Charlotte’s memory will be eternal as she is forever in our hearts.
Funeral 9:00 a.m. Friday morning from the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie and at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m. Mamma Bear’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to her caregivers Bendie Reneau Hartnagle who is more like a daughter to her after years of love and support shown by Bendie to this family. We also thank Sheri Berhaupt and Holly Nash and the entire home care team who cared for her so lovingly along with the Community Hospice of Albany.
