Obituary of Ronald Ray Cootware

Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald Ray Cootware, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born on the 1st of February, 1946, he lived life by honoring love, laughter, family and friendships. Unfortunately, Ron left us on January 21, 2025, leaving an empty space in our lives that can never be filled.

Ronald was born in Albany, NY to Edith Furman Cootware and Ezra Cootware. He attended Voorheesville High School, where he played basketball and formed lifelong friendships. He later pursued his passion for mechanics, owning his own business before transitioning into a successful career as an insurance adjuster for Traveler’s Insurance. You may have known him as Ron, Ronnie, Coot, Cooter, and Dink.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Crystal Cootware Hoffman, Shannon Mieczkowski Seneta (John) and Theresa Mieczkowski Snapp; and his son, Steven Mieczkowski. He also leaves behind his dear brother, Donald Cootware. He was a proud grandfather to Stephanie, Brianna, Jayci, Cassidy, Jordan, Abigail, Chace, Hunter and Corbin and great-grandfather to 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom filled his heart with love and happiness.

Ron was a man of many interests and talents. He had a passion for hunting, fishing with his grandkids, watching NASCAR, NY Giants, Celtics, Duke Basketball, and playing his lottery tickets. You could find him in the garage with a tool in his hand tinkering with cars. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a member of the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club.

Ron will always be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and the unconditional love he gave to his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Voorheesville followed by burial at Graceland Cemetery in Albany.  Calling hours will be Monday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

We invite everyone who knew and loved him to join us in honoring his memory. Let's raise a toast to him with his favorite drink - a lemon drop, just the way he liked it.
