Voorheesville:

Daniel C. Wadsworth
March 21, 1935 – June 1, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel “Dan” C. Wadsworth, who left us peacefully on June 1, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born and raised in the small town of Benson, NY, Dan was one of eight children of Blanche Wescott Wadsworth and Charles Wadsworth. He grew up with a strong sense of family and community—values that stayed with him throughout his life.

Dan is survived by his beloved siblings Evelyn Wadsworth Brown of Gloversville, Dorothy Parker, Beverly Wadsworth Blowers of Benson, and Ronald Wadsworth of Fairhills, PA. He was predeceased by his brothers Edward, Richard “Dick” and Michael.

Dan attended Northville Schools and served honorably in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa from 1953 to 1955. After returning home, he embarked on a long and dedicated 40-year career with the New York Central Railroad, which later merged to form Conrail. Starting out as a line man and later working as a signal man, Dan had a remarkable memory and a talent for storytelling—often entertaining friends and family with detailed, colorful accounts of his time on the rails or his adventures at camp with his brother Dick. Dan retired in 1997 but continued to serve the community by working at the Voorheesville Post Office from 2000 to 2005.

In 1985, Dan married the love of his life, Linda Beardsley Wadsworth. Together, they built a life full of love, adventure, and family. They enjoyed traveling across the U.S., especially on road trips out west, and made lasting memories during annual summer vacations in Ocean City, Maryland with Linda’s children, grandchildren, and extended family. Dan and Linda shared a deep bond until her passing in 2013.

Dan was a longtime member of the New Scotland Presbyterian Church and later joined the Helderberg Reformed Church in Guilderland Center, where his faith and friendships were an important part of his life.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Jamie) Anderson, of Emmonsburg, and son, Daniel (Tracy) Wadsworth Jr.,of Holland Patent, as well as Linda’s children, Joan (Bruce) Martelle of Delmar and Carl (Diane) Beardsley of Surfside Beach South Carolina. He was a proud grandfather to Casey Tyndall, Kayla Wadsworth, Lydia Barnes, Megan Martelle, and Derek Martelle.

Dan lived life with purpose and joy. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and he found fulfillment in visiting with friends and family, building and fixing things, gardening, fishing, hunting, and relaxing with a good cup of coffee and a slice of pie—often while petting a beloved animal companion or enjoying the view from his granddad’s camp in Benson, a place filled with memories and peace. He will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and unwavering support of family and friends.

A graveside service to celebrate Dan’s life will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 12 noon at the Washburn Holmes Cemetery in Benson. All are welcome to join in remembering and honoring him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dan’s memory to a charity or community organization of your choice.
