Obituary of Patricia A. Carmody

Voorheesville – Patricia A. Carmody, 90, of Voorheesville, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Born in Albany on January 8, 1935, the daughter of Timothy and Helen (Kirk) Caulfield, Patricia graduated from Vincentian Institute in Albany, NY.  She was employed for many years by the New York State Departments of Audit and Control, Environmental Conservation and Corrections.

Patricia is predeceased by her husband John T. Carmody, Sr. and her son John T. Carmody, Jr.  She is survived by children: Eileen Kelly (James), Sheila Carmody (Lonnie Palmer), Patricia Piccini (Daniel) and Daniel Carmody (Karin). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kit Carmody Jelonek, John (Jack) Kelly, Matthew and Christopher Piccini, and Isabella, Miles and Mia Carmody. Patricia is survived by her sister Helen Shunk and predeceased by brothers John, Warren, Edward, Gerard, Frederick and Timothy Caulfield and sisters Eileen Holm, Margaret Comes and Marie Hurley. Patricia is also survived by more than 80 nieces and nephews.   

Patricia spent her life dedicated to the Catholic church and volunteered many years for St. Matthews Church in Voorheesville. She was very fond of her large family and was particularly close with her sister Helen, especially when they were raising their own children. There were 11 kids between the two families and Thanksgiving was a blast.  While she was raising kids, Patricia found a hobby in ceramics and later painting with some of her early pieces still on display in her children’s homes. She sewed as well. It was something she took an interest in and worked at, but it also was a practical way to save money.  Dancing was another activity she enjoyed and was good at, as was her husband, John. They pretty much met on the dance floor and showed their skills at every wedding, and there were many.

She will be missed by her children but reunited with her son Jack who passed away in 1979.

Family and friends may join in Funeral Services to be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2025 at St. Matthew’s Church in Voorheesville. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
