Obituary of Barbara A. Cavalieri

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Albany - Barbara (Sehl) Cavalieri, 80, of Albany, NY, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026 at

MidCoast Senior Living in Brunswick, ME. She was born on February 2, 1946, and grew up in the Colonie area.

Barbara dedicated her professional life to the care of others, retiring from Albany

Medical Center’s childcare department in 2012. Simultaneously, she served as the

longtime office manager for DC Stars Gymnastics until it closed its doors in 2016. Her

commitment to her community was further evidenced by her years of service as a

dedicated Girl Scout leader for both of her daughter’s troops. She planned many outings for her

girl scouts including hayrides in the fall, Christmas singing at area nursing homes, trips to

Thatcher Park, and yearly camping experiences at Camp Little Notch.

In her personal life, Barbara found great joy in the simple pleasures of the Maine coast,

vacationing in Ogunquit and Wells in her early years as well as adulthood. For many

years in between she enjoyed family vacations to Wildwood, NJ. She cherished time spent with

her family and friends. She spent many years traveling across the US to support her daughters

with their gymnastics and dance endeavors. She was the ultimate supporter – quiet in the

stands and always the first one to find the positive in a situation. Barbara also enjoyed her

music and never missed an opportunity to sing along with Rod Stewart or Janis Joplin.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents William and Bertha Sehl. and  her beloved husband, Joseph Cavalieri; her

brother, William Sehl; and her sister, Georgiana Gallucci. She is survived by her two daughters and their

families: Jill Haskell and her husband Andrew of Gardiner, Maine; and Leslie Hanley and her

husband Timothy of North Attleboro, Massachusetts. She was the proud and loving

grandmother of Jocelyn Haskell, and Ava, Reagan, Collin, and Tessa Hanley. She also leaves

behind her sister, Margaret Schleuter (husband, Roger Schleuter), sisters-in-law, Madeline

Sehl, Elissa O’Reily, and brother-in-law Michael Cavalieri; as well as many nieces and

nephews.

A warm thank you goes to the nurses and staff at Midcoast Senior Health Center in Brunswick,

ME for keeping Barbara peaceful and comfortable in her final days.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Blessed
