Obituary of Anita Mary Myers

Myers, Anita Mary ALBANY Anita Mary Myers, daughter of the late Henry D. and Agnes Dott Myers, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2014 at the Wesley Heath Care Center in Saratoga Springs, where she had resided for several months. Born October 10, 1921, in Albany, she was a graduate of Albany High School and attended Mildred Elley Business School. Anita retired in 1990 as a office manager of Standard Furniture Store, where she had served for 20 years. Previously employed by Leslie's Albany Credit Bureau and Western Auto Supply, Anita had a distinguished career as a credit and collections specialist. She was a past local president of the Credit Women International and served as the past president of its Empire Council District #2. Anita was the first female president of the Consumer Credit Association of the Capital District. She also affiliated during World War II with the U.S. Army and the Albany VA. Anita was also a devoted community volunteer who served with distinction as a member of the Herman Silverstein Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary; past president of the William Valek Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary and past president of the Albany County Auxiliary, having also served as the secretary of its Third District. Anita was a chapeau passe of the Albany Salon de Boutique Des Hit et Quarante Femmes, and a 20 year member of the Melzingah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. An avid traveler who visited 38 states, including Hawaii and Alaska, Anita also toured 12 European nations, three provinces of Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, India and Russia. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church and a member of its Altar Rosary Society. She also served as past president of the St. Francis de Sales Senior Citizens Group. Anita was devoted to her extended family, who will always remember her with great love and affection. She is survived by her brother, H. Duane Myers of Colonie, as well as seven nieces, Diane M. Doring, Cynthia Doring Hollowood, Denise Doring VanBuren, Colleen Doring D'Amico, Mary Theresa Myers Mereness, Kathy Myers Price and Janice Myers Goldstein; also three nephews, Stanley D. Myers, Duane Myers and James M. Doring, as well as 15 great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Stanley of Broadalbin and her sister, Eunice Myers Doring of Troy. Anita's funeral Mass will be Saturday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Drive, Colonie. Friends and relatives are invited and may also call at Reilly & Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave., Colonie from 8:30-9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Our Light Seniors Activities Fund, 1 Maria Dr., Albany, NY 12211.
