Obituary of Kathleen J. Grimes

Colonie - Kathleen J. Grimes, 77, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Albany County Nursing Home. Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Colonie for more than 50 years. Kathleen was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. She worked as a Librarian for the NYS Department of Labor in Albany. Prior to coming to Albany Kathleen was one of the first members of a new Parish Standers in Brooklyn where she was a Cantor, Lector and Catechist. She was a member of the Oblate of Saint Benedict, Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton, SD, Knights of Columbus 4th in Brooklyn and Sweet Adelines. She also belonged to Big Brothers Big Sisters in Albany, was active in the Youth Opportunity Program of the State of New York and was an active parishioner of Christ Our Light Church in Loudonville.
Kathleen is survived by her siblings, Mary Conaghan and Thomas, Henry, Eugene and Kevin Grimes; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, NY 12211. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be at Christ Our Light Church, prior to the mass on Thursday, from 9 - 11 o’clock. At Kathleen’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Christ Our Light Food Pantry or the Benedictine Sisters for the needy, Sacred Heart Monastery, West 8th St., Yankton, SD 57078 would be appreciated.
