Obituary of Robert P. Roche
Delmar – Robert P. Roche of Delmar passed away on January 9, 2018.
Robert (Bob) was born in Albany and graduated Vincentian Institute, College of the Holy Cross, and
Albany Law School. A long-time Albany attorney, he served many roles over the years including Albany County Attorney, Legal Counsel for the Albany Police Department and Albany Sheriff’s Department. He was an inspiring orator in the courtroom and at lectures about legal ethics.
He loved to talk and tell stories. He especially enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh. He loved to read and to stay intellectually active. Bob was very knowledgeable about many topics and had a great recall of information.
He enjoyed being involved in local politics and was an active member of the Albany County Democratic Committee. He sat on various boards and was a former Chairman of the CDTA. He served as a Brigadier General in the New York Guard, and coached a Debate Club at CBA. He loved helping others and was associated with various charities including the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
He was a talented vocalist starring as a child in local television. As an adult he shared his beautiful voice with the Holy Cross Glee Club, Choir Director of St. James Parish, and a Cantor for Historic St. Mary’s Church. He had a fondness for his faith and religiously attended St. Mary’s.
He loved sports and was a Red Sox and Patriots enthusiast. He served as the Manager of the Roche Clippers Softball Team which included many of his friends, and many hours of fun. He enjoyed stamp collecting, model airplanes, traveling and anything Irish.
He was generous in every way and had a lot of love to give, especially for his family. He is survived by his wife Karen, his brother John, his children Robert Jr., Sean, Anne, Patrick and Timothy, their spouses and ten grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents John and Marion Roche, and his sister Nancy Buckhoff.
Funeral 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 from the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie and 10:30 a.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Church, 10 Lodge St., Albany. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
