Obituary of Bruce Edwin Zeh

Voorheesville - Bruce Edwin Zeh passed from this life to eternal life on April 5th, 2020 at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He is survived by his wife, Edith Jane Zeh (Hotaling); three daughters, Deborah Zeh, Amy Zeh and Betsy Zeh; and two grandchildren, Sofie Zeh Plunkett and Cuyler Zeh Plunkett. He is also survived by his brother, Jan Zeh and niece and nephews. A life-long resident of Voorheesville, NY, he met his wife in the 8th grade and following college, married his highschool sweetheart, raising 3 daughters and becoming an integral part of the Voorheesville community. He worked as civil engineer for the Department of Transportation for the state of NY and spent his spare time involved in several community organizations. He was superintendent for the Methodist Church Sunday School program, volunteered at the Scholar for Dollars program, was a Mason and Grand Master for the Noah Lodge #754 in Altamont, NY. As a Mason, he volunteered his time transporting children and their families to and from the Shriner’s Hospital in Boston, MA. His dedication as a Mason often included volunteering his children to help in serving dinners at the Lodge and working the Altamont Fair food booth. We look back fondly on those times. Community service, dedication to family, and integrity was most important to him and this has been instilled in his daughters and grandchildren. He spent every vacation with family and we are forever grateful for the time he spent teaching us how to fish, build a campfire, sail, canoe and this has fed our love for the outdoors. He built a workshop in the basement that fueled his passion for wood working and served useful when planning and building the addition to the home and, who can forget the awesome air hockey table he built which provided years of competitive sibling play. A true Renaissance man, Bruce was an avid reader of American history and he loved his country and its heroes. He proudly served in the National Guard as a young man and supported the Wounded Warrior Project for years. A gifted writer, his many letters to family members are remembered for their wit and political satire. Storytelling came easy to him and Bruce regaled us all at the many family gatherings over the years. Bruce’s opinions were strong and you had better have your facts straight in a debate with him.
