VOORHEESVILLE - Katherine Rose Cholpan Crounse passed away suddenly from natural causes on Monday, June 17, 2013. Katherine was born on June 14, 1919 in New York City, New York and was the daughter of the late John and Caroline Cholpan. She spent most of her years living in East Islip, Long Island, New York. She moved to Voorheesville in 1994 to be close to family. Katherine graduated from East Islip High School, spent several years as a secretary before the birth of her first daughter. Afterwards, Katherine was a homemaker whose loving care, grace and imagination enriched the lives of all of those around her. She loved art, music, architecture, fashion, and was keenly interested in keeping current with the world around her. An avid reader, she was one of the founding members of the East Islip Friends of the Library. She was very active in the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service (now the United Methodist Women) for over seventy years. Much of her life was centered around her family. She was proud of her children and grandchildren, and greatly enjoyed their company. She will always be remembered for her wonderful cooking, sage advice and example of elegance. Katherine was the loving wife of 43 years of the late Myndert Crounse; caring Mother of Lynn Crounse of Hampton Virginia, Sarita (John) Winchell and the late Lydia (Leonard) Tobler of Voorheesville; proud Grandmother of Gregory (Kirsten) Tobler, Lynette (Seizo) Mazer and Katherine Winchell; and Great-grandmother to Erik Tobler. She was the sister of the late George Cholpan, aunt to the late Kenneth Cholpan, and is survived by one great-nephew George Cholpan and several cousins. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Reilly and Son Funeral Home, Voorheesville on Friday, June 21 from 4-8 p.m. The Funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Maple Ave., Voorheesville, on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. Burial will be Monday on Long Island. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 68 Maple Ave., Voorheesville, NY 12186.
