So sorry to hear. We worked together for many years at NYSP. I will remember our out of town IT work station support trips. You were a very nice person. RIP Mark :(

My heart is broken. I haven't seen Mark in about 7 years, but I remember playing guitar with him and singing tunes together. I extend my deepest regrets to his family and friends. A couple of special memories I have was when we both played so late into the evening and still didn't run out of tunes we both loved.. I looked over and his eyes were closed as if he was sleeping while his hands kept playing the chords ! From then on, we said that Mark is so good he can sleep while playing .. I remember how he really was nervous around my parrot and that blue-headed Pionus named "Martin" would not leave him alone. Loved to land on his head. I remember taking a banjo class with him where we both learned old-timey style "banjer"... goodbye dear Mark.
You've made so many folks smile with your playing. I'll never forget you.

Deepest of sympathies and condolences to Mark's extended family and friends. Working with Mark for over 18 years was always an adventure: from NYSPIN, to Panda Anti-virus, to current day SCCM software. Technology brought us to work, but music and "Bflat based songs..??? really??" "thats what a capo is for Jim..." is what fueled us and kept us going. Over the past few years, we had daily chord talks, finger diagrams, and the occasional "see what guitar is on sale?". Discussions of pocket contents consisted not of change or lint, but of the newest picks, newest pick grips, and usage of both. I never had a guitar teacher. I played for years in church teams, still do. But after our discussions, and what ever chores I had to accomplish after work, I always found time to "test" what we discussed that day. In Mark's style, he was a teacher. 7:30 AM in the office will not be the same. I have to be honest, I'll miss the "so figured out frets 5 through 9 chords yet?" No, but I did finally get that video on finger picking like Jim Croce.... You traded that Martin for a golden Harp my friend, turn it sideways, might feel more natural. As some might say lift a glass, offer a toast, I'll keep to the phrase I heard you say for years, "time for some dark fizzy water", so I'll twist the top, lift high the soda, enjoy and play that song in Bflat.

I have worked with Mark for fifteen years. We had great conversations about music, politics and the general world view. Mark embodied the human spirit of standing for what you believe, a warmth and kindness to others and enjoying life. I will miss him.

Mark was many things: an outstanding musician, songwriter and fellow band mate in Three-Quarter North; a great friend and companion at work with the State Police; an inspiring self-taught technician and polymath, and a man of intelligence, discernment, warmth, humor, and friendliness to all with whom he came in contact. Those of us who knew Mark, who worked and played with him, have been enriched for having enjoyed the pleasure of his company.

Mark and I have been friends for many years. He was a gifted musician and a really good friend. I can't tell you how many times he tried to get me to go to Banjo camp and I kept saying, next year. I will really miss him. I wish he had said something because I feel as though I didn't get a chance to say goodbye. I know that he is in the heavenly choir and that banjo's are welcome. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Marty, I'm just seeing this now. I'm so sorry you didn't find out earlier. It all happened so quickly and we were focused on the day to day battles. It was a matter of weeks from start to finish. There just wasn't any time and Mark was also very private person. Please go to banjo camp. Rose, Mark's cousin
