Robert ("Bob") Bruce Price

Robert “Bob” Price, age 89, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024.  Bob was born in New York City in 1935. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he flew helicopters and met his wife, Patricia.  After his time in service, he retained his private pilot’s license for many years after leaving active duty.

He worked as a mechanical engineer with a fascination for automation, gears, machinery, especially robotics and engines. Bob was an entrepreneur who founded his own company and an inventor with multiple patents. He was an early pioneer in the application of machine vision, computer aided design, and robotic automation in manufacturing plants and assembly lines.

Bob's passion for innovation and lifelong learning was an inspiration to those around him. He was an active participant in the Old Marine Engine forum and several boat shows, such as the "Gas-Up” events at the Calvert Marine Museum in Maryland, where he displayed and demonstrated antique engines he personally restored. He designed and built a boat from scratch, taking it on a number of voyages.

A longtime resident of Knox, NY, Bob passionately served the town for decades as a chairman and member of the Planning Board.  At home, he enjoyed hands-on projects. He designed and built his home, was at times a garlic farmer, and was an avid reader and researcher.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in his memory to the Peppertree Rescue (https://peppertree.org/) in Rensselaer, NY, a not-for-profit dedicated to saving Golden Retrievers and dogs of good temperament.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Meredith, two grandsons, Matthew and Patrick, and four great-grandchildren. Bob's legacy of innovation, community service, and love of learning will be cherished by all who knew him.
