Grandpa,
What to say to a man who gave us all so much and asked for nothing in return?
Grandpa, you were the quiet piece to the foundation of what became an amazing family and community. From the day that I first met you, it was apparent to my then teenager-self, that you were the calm, steady hand to which everyone looked for guidance. You always showed up, present with unwavering support for all of our many, many ventures and milestones (and considering the sheer number of us, that in and of itself was no small feat). You were an open ear when we needed a chat and someone who I knew would always give me sound, unbiased advice and insight. Thank you for welcoming me into the folds so gracefully, from day one making me feel like one of the pack.
Over the years I have always admired your dedication to family, and really to any entity to which you chose to be a part of. When traveling, I giggled because you understood the place that Starbucks held with regard to Grandma's coffee fix and you always made sure she stayed supplied. For those of us who traveled in, you relished on being the first one to greet us at the airport and then the last to see us off, sending us on our way back to wherever we came from. To this day I look for you as I come through security at Albany International. The countless Elvis sightings always provided a fun topic of conversation over the many meals shared, to include pancake breakfasts. What's more is that you, along with Grandma, provided us with so many wonderful opportunities to share said meals.
Thank you for caring so deeply to keep this family strong and united. Thank you for all of the opportunities to build and maintain relationships through the times we have spent together. As one of the grandchildren who lived further away, summer vacations and holiday gatherings are among my fondest memories. Thank you for those.
In addition to those larger gatherings, I really cherish the times that I spent with just you and Grandma, just the three of us. Due to the distance I did not experience as much of these times, but when I did, you always made the time count. You have been such a blessing in my life, and, as so many other have expressed, you will be dearly missed.
Until the time comes that we see you on the other side, I know you are up there continuing to guide us in your own, calm way. I take comfort in this knowledge and I say, love you Grandpa. See you later!

I am so blessed to have had grandpa in my life. I loved going on all of the vacations and making unforgettable memories. My favorite times were definitely when people dressed up as Elvis. But no one was better at it than grandpa. You will be missed, love you lots❤️

I am so fortunate to have had John as an incredible role model in my life for long. I will always cherish the conversations we had on the rides to pick up pizza and wings on all those vacations. He was everything one could aspire to be in every role in his life. Our children are truly blessed to have had so many wonderful memories with their Grandpa Zongrone. Love, John Nieratko

One of my favorite stories grandpa told was when he was in the military over seas and grandma sent him a care package full of newspapers about his favorite team. He opened it thinking he was getting cookies or some other little goodie, but it was just full of newspapers! He was very disappointed because everyone else was getting cookies and goodies, but he got a box full of newspapers.
Always love you grandpa,
Abbie

One of my favorite memories of Grandpa was when he took us to the summer houses and dressing up as Elvis. Even thought it has been passed down to other people, Grandpa was the best Elvis impersonator.
Love you Grandpa, Cole

I remember when Uncle John called me and asked if I would be willing to do some odd and end jobs around the house. Of course it was just his way of helping me with some college bills. One of the jobs was to put down tiles in the basement. When I had finished with the floor I had to clean the excess glue off the faces of the tiles. Of course I didn’t have the proper solvent for the task, so I improvised and use gasoline. Uncle John was so happy with the job. It wasn’t until some time later that I learned that everyone had to evacuate the house and stay in a hotel due to the smell from the gasoline. Uncle John never said anything to me, I learned about it from one of my cousins.
His demeanor, kindness, and generosity was an example for me.
Uncle John, you will be deeply missed.
Love RJ
