Obituary of Leo A. Dott

Colonie / Guilderland - Leo A. Dott passed away at home on Friday, October 25, 2024.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leo Dott, who left us peacefully at the age of 86 after battling Parkinson’s disease. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle and was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.

Leo was a man of great character and warmth, known for his love of golf and his enjoyment of a cold Miller Lite. His presence brought joy and comfort to all who knew him.  His generosity knew no boundaries.

Leo was a 1956 Graduate of CBA and he was entered into the CBA Athletic Hall of Fame for golf.  He was the past owner of Dott’s Garage in Colonie where he grew up working in the family business.  As an avid golfer he was proud of his license plate “9 ACES” which indicated his achieving nine holes in one.

Leo was the son of the late  Edward R. and Charlotte Miller Dott.  He was the loving husband of Nancy Wilber Dott, who provided unwavering care and support throughout his illness; father of John Martin, Joseph Martin (Debbie), Gina Grant (Bill), Lucas Dott (Rachel); grandfather of 11; great-grandfather of 11,  brother of Emily Dott; and uncle of several nieces and nephews.  Leo, the youngest of ten, was predeceased by eight other siblings.

Leo’s funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30. 2024 at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.  Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 4 - 7 p.m at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie.   A special thank you is extended to his care team, Chi, Kelly, Kristin, Renee, Jami, Tara and very special friend and caretaker, Rich.  Donations may be made in Leo’s memory to Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
